Mackenzie Shelswell-White

Texas born, Oregon grown, and Colorado roaming, I have seen a little bit of everything in my short but jam-packed 22 years so far. I am truly passionate about the simple things in life and taking the time to frame them into meaningful storytelling. More than a photographer, I am a storyteller, listener, and learner of all things life.

my philosophy
I believe in and practice ethical journalistic standards whenever I am behind the camera; whether at a protest, city hall meeting, photo shoot, concert, or just quietly observing life on the street. I believe in and practice the art of observing the world around me through a critical, analytical, and most importantly, understanding lens through the direction of my camera.
my education
I proudly graduated in the class of 2022 from Sisters High School in Sisters, Oregon after moving from Dallas, Texas in 2019. Such a jarring change of scenery has the power to inflict some intense emotions, but luckily for me, those emotions then taught me how to slow down and notice the world around me. At SHS during my junior and senior year, I led mountain expeditions and river rafting adventures as an Interdisciplinary Environmental Expeditions Intern all over Central Oregon and fell in love with the outdoors along the way. Colorado offered a whole new world to explore and learn to call home as I began my studies of journalism and sociology at CU Boulder from the fall of 2022 until May of 2026.
my promise
Operating with a team mindset is crucial in my work, as it ensures we cross the finish line together as a team. Open communication and radical dependability is what makes a great team stand out from the rest, so I promise dependable and open communication when we are working together.
